Sometimes I think it’s a good idea to reflect and look at the conventional wisdom about leadership. Whenever I do this, I notice that some popular though outdated ideas about leadership still get circulated and practiced. It’s amazing that some of these myths continue to persist currently when they were outdated 20 or more years ago. Times change, and so does the meaning of what leading effectively entails.

Providing constructive, actionable feedback is a significant challenge for many leaders. Leaders recognize the importance of giving feedback to their teams, but they don't always know how to go about doing it. Some go through the motions, while others avoid it altogether, thinking they'll find time to give feedback "someday." And in other cases, leaders provide what they believe is solid feedback, only to discover that the person on the receiving end fails to apply it.
